GLP DNA Isolation

The DNA isolation laboratory operates under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) standards and provides services to clients in the academic, industrial, and pharmaceutical communities.

Genomic DNA isolation is performed on a Qiagen Autopure LS, (formerly Gentra) an automated, high-throughput instrument that can process sixteen samples every ninety minutes.

We are able to process a wide variety of sample types including whole blood, buffy coats, saliva, buccal swabs, and FTA paper. For other sample types, please inquire.

DNA is quantified by UV absorption at 260 and 280 nm. Alternately, clients can request quantification using PicoGreen® (Invitrogen).

Sample Storage

Samples are bar-coded and sample information is entered in a database. DNA can be returned to the client after isolation or stored on-site at -20°C. Long-term storage costs are minimal and are charged on a cost recovery basis.

How to Submit Samples

All samples must be accompanied by a DNA Submission Form.

If your samples are obtained directly or indirectly from human subjects, please include a copy of the Ethical Compliance Form, as well as a copy of the ethics approval and consent forms for the project. We cannot process samples obtained from human subjects without these documents.

Confidentiality

As required by rigorous ethical committee procedures for studies involving human subjects, we request that all personal identifiers be removed from sample tubes, sample labels, requisition sheets, or other records. Blood samples will only be labeled with a barcode number.

For those clients who require added levels of denominalization due to the ethical requirements of their projects, double coding-using encryption of the samples can be performed.
